Seamless steel pipes are formed by piercing and rolling a solid steel billet, with no weld seams, offering high pressure resistance and suitability for conveying high-temperature, high-pressure, and corrosive media, such as in power plant boilers and petrochemical installations. Spiral-welded steel pipes feature helical weld seams, enabling high production efficiency and making them ideal for large-diameter pipelines, primarily used in urban gas, water supply, heating trunk lines, and long-distance oil and gas pipelines. Straight-welded steel pipes have linear weld seams, suitable for medium and low-pressure applications, commonly employed in general fluid conveyance for industrial plants and municipal projects.
Taking seamless steel pipes as an example, GB/T 8163 is applicable for general fluid transportation, GB 9948 is applicable for petroleum cracking, and GB 5310 is applicable for high-pressure boilers. Different standards have different requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and inspection. When purchasing, corresponding standards should be selected based on actual use and cannot be mixed.
When selecting pipeline materials, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as usage environment, medium characteristics, working temperature, and pressure. Common 20 # steel is suitable for general fluid transportation, 45 # steel has higher strength and is suitable for mechanical structures, while alloy steel is suitable for high temperature and high pressure environments. If corrosive media are being transported, stainless steel or pipes that have undergone anti-corrosion treatment need to be selected.
